Art Club
Welcome to the Art Club! If you didn’t know already, we are completely obsessed with colour theory and have a deep set fascination in the science of colour - you might have caught co-founders Rosie and Harriet speaking with neurologist Sophie Scott at our All Together Now festival about why jewellery makes us so happy, paying particular attention to colour. Check it out on our IGTV here.
First designed for Tate in 2007, this NEW collection of Colour Swatch Jewellery, Art Club, derives from this very obsession and was inspired by artist Mark Pawson’s collection of vintage Perspex colour swatches. A tool of the trade yet beautiful in its own right, it just had to be made into jewellery.
We’ve named the colour swatches after some of Rosie and Harriet’s favourite art movements from the twentieth century. For 2020, we are very proud to announce we’ve reworked the entire collection in 100% recycled acrylic, proving that sustainability can be colourful, too!
The Colour Swatch Necklace has been a long-standing Team Tatty favourite and we know our fans having been waiting patiently for us to bring it back. Here it is...
Let’s take a closer look at the rest of the Art Club collection and the art movement namesakes...
Bauhaus Blue, based on the German Art movement prevalent in the 1920’s and early 30’s which championed a geometric, abstract style which continues to influence artists, architects and creators to this day.
Pop Art Yellow, a celebration of the 1950’s art movement which Tatty Devine so often finds itself drawn to, taking inspiration from popular and commercial culture.
Outsider Orange, inspired by the movement of self taught and naive art makers and first coined in the 1970’s. If you’re a make-at-home artist, this is the one for you!
Then fast forward to the end of the century and the rise in Post Modernism ‘but is it art?’ era, which is fantastically represented in red.
Explore the use and composition of colour with your jewellery and wardrobe and have some artistic fun with Art Club. If you’re feeling creative, Rosie and Harriet have set you an Instagram #MyTattyPalette challenge for the chance to WIN a £50 Tatty Devine voucher throughout August, find out more here.
S-watch this space! Stay tuned as we have some exciting Q&A blogs coming your way with some up-and-coming artists that we are loving right now. In the meantime, shop the Art Club collection and stay colourful.
