Customer of the Month: Mira Boutique
Meet Mira Boutique (yes, that is her real name!). Mira first caught our eye when we saw her handing out cakes at London Rollergirls bouts. We couldn't resist picking her as Customer of the Month after she appeared in Pick Me Up magazine a few weeks ago, showing off her amazing fast food tattoos!
How did the Pick Me Up article happen, Mira?
They asked on Twitter if anyone has any collections. I collect fake food and have lots of food tattoos. I was wearing the Tatty Devine Crisp Necklace in that article! It really made me laugh when it came out.
Tell us more about your tattoos - how do you decide what to get done?
If I like how something looks then I usually want to get it tattooed on myself. A lot of my tattoos are things from car boot sales and jumble sales. Like my casserole dish, and my favourite poodle tattoo which I got copied from some wrapping paper I got at a car boot sale. I love it because she is just so cute!
This sausage dog is as amazed as we are by Mira's tattoos - or perhaps she's just surprised to see Puss in Boots on Mira's shin!
Do you have any Tatty Devine tattoos?
I kind of do! I have a pierrot tattoo and I own a few of the Tatty Devine Pierrot items. My flat is full of pierrot knick-knacks. I also got a party ring tattoo on my arm just before the Tatty Devine Party Ring stuff came out.
The swallow under Mira's Name Necklace and Dollar Eye Pendant also reminds us of our Swallow Brooches. Mira's glow-in-the-dark Name Necklace was a special option we offered for Halloween one year.
What are your favourite Tatty Devine pieces?
Oh, that's hard! The Crisp Necklace is one that I wear a lot, and the Pierrot one. I did have the glow-in-the-dark 'Boutique' necklace in the picture, but it got burnt in a house fire. Then I got it made again and but I broke it celebrating the Royal Wedding a bit too hard (I also smashed up my arm and my left knee) so I will be getting another one made soon I hope! (We think we can fix that...) The pyramid stuff also is beautiful.
When did you first discover Tatty Devine?
I'm not sure - I have loved plastic and acrylic jewellery since I was a kid. I know the first time I saw Tatty Devine I HAD TO HAVE IT!!!
How would you describe your style?
I have been described as wearing clothes either for 8 year olds or 80 year olds! I like bright colours and prints.
What's your favourite outfit?
Right now I'm in love with a T-shirt I got from Philip Normal's Happy Shack in Camden. It's a really bright 80s one with clashing colours. I love bows, short skirts, dresses - I don't own any trousers at the moment - knee high socks, coloured tights. I also bought a 60s dress yesterday that I think I'm going to be wearing a lot.
Mira shows off a sushi lunch box given to her by Philip Normal. "It takes batteries to stop your fish going rotten."
Do you ever get stopped in the street and asked about what you're wearing?
Yes, I do. Sometimes tourists ask to take photos of me, or sometimes people ask why I look like an idiot!
Are you still in the London Rollergirls?
Nope, I love the Rollergirls and love hanging out with them but I've swapped my wheels for blades and have taken up ice dance. I used to take figure skating lessons when I was younger and must be crazy to take it up again as I had some pretty horrific injuries on the ice when I was a teenager!
Where did your surname 'Boutique' come from?
I always like how everything sounds in French. I could listen to French hip hop and swearing all day long! I love words ending in ette and et and have loved the word since I was a kid. I also love shops! I want to live in a shop.
What do you wish Tatty Devine would make next?
Oh, so many things! Matadors as I fancy them all, a McDonalds collaboration (umm... unlikely, sorry!), ice skating stuff... I love seeing what Tatty Devine come up with - it never disappoints!
Thank you Mira! We'll be sending you a gift to say thank you for appearing on our blog.
