How It's Made: Horse Necklace
Giddy up! Ever since we spotted the first drawings taking shape in Harriet's sketchbook last year, we couldn't wait to reveal the latest addition to our menagerie, the Horse Necklace. Designed to celebrate the arrival of Chinese New Year, it takes its inspiration from 2014's symbol, the Wooden Horse - oh, and much loved rocking horses from our childhood, too.
Join our Kent studio's Production Assistant (and photography queen) Caroline as she gives you an exclusive behind the scenes peek at how our new equine friend is made...
The journey begins in our Chatham studio where each horse is laser cut from sustainably sourced walnut wood. No noble steed would be complete without a mane, so we create the outline of our creature's stylish coiffure using laser etching. Check out that beautiful flowing tail, too. Here's the team hard at work removing the protective covering that makes sure each piece isn't damaged or marked during the laser cutting process:
We really wanted our horse to come to life when you're wearing it, so its body is carefully overlaid with a wooden front and hind leg for a 3D effect. Not a super skilled rider? Luckily for you, we've dressed this little fellow up with a miniature laser cut leather saddle and stirrups, too. Once our team have made sure they're all looking their best, we let them have a quick rest before we add the final touches:
Next up? We carefully attach a shining golden bridle and chain to each Horse Necklace.
After a careful clean with a cotton bud and final double check to make sure they're ready to head off to a new home, Team Tatty package them up and send them to our stores... and to you!
What would you call your loyal steed? Share it with us in the comments below! Gallop off on your own adventures and shop the Horse Necklace now. (Psst! This cute creature comes as a Brooch, too!)
