How to: photograph your jewellery!

Grab your camera phone, pop on selfie mode and you’ll be sure to go viral following our top jewellery styling tips for upping your Instagram game, ‘fit pics and all…

Ever wondered how to wear a necklace and earrings together? Design Assistant, Mia-Kitty, shows us how it’s done with that glowing sunshine… the angle, lighting, and jewellery - perfection!

IT’S ALL ABOUT ANGLES If you want to show off your new jewellery or outfit - it's all about the selfie! It might take you a while to find your perfect angle, but you'll get there. Try taking your selfie straight on rather than from above or below, it's much more flattering and really shows off the latest addition to your collection!

Dressed as a Lipstick Kiss Necklace@disabled_eliza’s colour-coordinated look stands out perfectly against a neutral background! Who takes your ‘fit pics Eliza and when can we borrow them?

MAKE IT A GROUP PROJECT If selfies aren’t for you, ask a friend to take your snap… Instagram boyfriends be damned: we’re opening this up to friends, colleagues and maybe even your favourite  next-door neighbour or our friendly Covent Garden store team! The world is your oyster and you might just end up gracing somebody’s ‘outfit pictures ideas’ Pinterest board. Goals!

Solo snapping? Why not prop your phone up and play with the self-timer for some full-on ‘fit pics!

Feeling camera shy? Take a leaf out of @colourfulmartha’s book and say hello to the closeup - don’t worry, you still show off your full fit with a carousel post! It really is ALL about the details and this extreme selfie perfectly picks out the details on their unique personalised Name Necklace Avoid busy or distracting prints: keep the focus on your accessories with block colours, bold tones and make complimentary necklines your BFF when it comes to nailing that perfect jewellery selfie.

FIND THE PERFECT LIGHT Try and find some natural light by heading outside or heading closer to a window - you'll notice that your images become brighter and instantly less grainy. Perfect for reflective pieces in mirror and iridescent acrylic jewellery like our stellar Planet Earrings or striking Dinosaur Necklace - Gold.Looking for a soft, flattering glow? Wait for the early evening light, also known as Golden Hour, to add a sun-kissed natural tone to your snaps.

Take your jewellery out and about: whether you’re brunching, lunching or visiting your favourite exhibition... We wanna see you on location! No face necessary: @mamareality found the perfect backdrop for her official Aladdin Sane Bolt Earrings… and just look at those nails!

MIX UP YOUR BACKGROUNDS Whether you're shooting a flat lay or ‘GRWM’ snap of your outfit, mixing up your backgrounds with different colours and textures can make all the difference - try using wallpaper samples, wooden tables, colour-pop knits or your brightest dress before you pop it on. Our top tip for selfies? Keep the background clutter-free: we’ve ruined many a good photo with washing up *just* in sight.

Keeping it colourful, Elysia’s Pink Poodles pop against contrasting greens. See what we mean about a vibrant backdrop? Ensure your cute outfit selfie stands out on the grid with a vibrant, eye-catching location like our award-winning Central London store window.

COMPOSITION Shooting in square mode means that you can focus on the composition straight away, rather than having to worry about the crop. Play around with shooting your subject in the centre, leaving blank space, or filling your frame to the max. Is anyone else obsessed with the NEW 0.5x zoom? Frankly, we just can’t get enough…

Feeling brave? Reel-y nail those jewellery closeups with video. Tap to see @urgalsal’s stormy selfie brought to life with Instagram Reels… Just look at those Thunderstorm Cloud Earrings shine!

PROPS It's always fun including food in our snaps (because it means we get to eat them afterwards!) and sweets always go down a treat on Instagram, but you can also try anything that floats your boat: postcards, pens, a mug of tea, makeup, flowers and patterned stationery could make your images more fun and engaging.

Take a leaf out of iambirdgirl’s sweet snap and team a vintage bird-watching book with the perfect spring jewellery set: our handmade Blue Tit Earrings and Blue Tit Necklace. Tweet, tweet!
