Living and Giving
Charity shopping is one of Team Tatty’s favourite pastimes. We all love rifling through donations to find collectibles, and everyone has their specialty: vegetable ceramics for Rosie, tea sets for Amy D, vintage scarves for Kirsty and anything in giant scale for Harriet. Mary’s Living and Giving Shops are the brainchild of retail guru Mary Portas in association with Save The Children, and the shops support the important work they do in the UK and abroad. Imagine a charity shop where you find donations from the best fashion houses around the world (yes, Chanel bags, McQueen dresses) and wonderful books and gifts. Tatty Devine regularly donate to their four stores so we jumped at the chance to hold one of our Jewellery Making workshops in their Westbourne Grove store. Armed with donations, odds and ends, Harriet went through the basics of opening jump rings, manipulating chain lengths, beading and sticking and gluing so everyone could start their own project. Our aim is always for everyone to go home with something unique to them. and that great feeling of being able to say "I made that!" Boxes of jewels, sequins, crystals and ribbons filled the tables. Of course it wouldn’t be a Tatty Devine workshop without cake so we have plenty of that on hand too! Missed out on the fun? In the next couple of months we will be running workshops all over the UK for the launch of our book How to Make Jewellery with Tatty Devine (out in October). Leeds and Liverpool are already in the diary so watch our Events page for more dates! See you there x
