Make Do And Mend, Tatty Devine style!
We had a brilliant time at the Museum of London on Saturday, doing a Make Do And Mend workshop, Tatty Devine style! Some of our jewellery is on permanent display in the museum, so we were delighted to be asked to do the workshop. The day started with Tatty Devine designer Harriet Vine giving a talk about the company, ideas and techniques for creating jewellery and customising clothes, and how to find materials and inspiration for Make Do And Mend style jewellery: Then we set up all our tools... We brought along lots of bits and pieces from the Tatty Devine studio for customising and creating jewellery. We also spent the weeks before the workshop scouring our favourite markets for cool trinkets and chains, so we had plenty of vintage jewellery and odd bits and bobs to start the embellishing and adorning!
Everyone at the workshop brought along clothes to swap and customise. So there was a massive swishing session to start with! There were seamstresses on hand for alterations:Soon everyone was busy working on their creations...
Harriet helped with ideas and techniques: This top looks great with vintage jewellery sewn around the neckline... We like this red jacket, with jewellery and badges pinned and sewn onto the lapels: A necklace and earrings created with coloured mirror stars are really pretty: We love this keyring with its theme of potato-based snacks: A pretty pearl necklace, with added lace, and extra chain to make it double-layered: A cute bow bracelet made from re-claimed beads: Thank you to everyone who came along! We hope you enjoy all your new creations. If you missed it, look out for Tatty Devine this Thursday at the V&A Museum of Childhood, where we'll be taking part in the Ethical Fashion in the Age of Austerity mini-festival.Related articles
