Making a headphones necklace with Izzy Lawrence
Last week Izzy Lawrence came to our studio to make some jewellery. She is a DJ, presenter and a model, but also has a passion for technology, so we were super pleased to invite her in to play with lasercutters. Neither of us knew what we would create when we started, we just let it happen! First we chatted about all the things she loves. Music and playing records came up over and over again, so we channeled our vision in that direction. Izzy has some really lovely vintage-look headphones, which she never goes anywhere without. So, we drew them! Then we spent the afternoon creating a special one-off headphones necklace for her . . . We cut out a paper version of the headphone necklace to work out scale. Then came the tricky bit of deciding which colours to use. We have sourced so many amazing colours of perspex and have masses of swatches! Then we went downstairs to our workshop and cut the necklace out. We didn't do a prototype, we just jumped in and cut it out in all the brilliant colours Izzy chose. Then we made up the necklace. Here's the artwork we created, and the finished piece, complete with lightning bolt Z's and tiny little etched-in signatures on the headphones! The ultimate name necklace?
