AW22: Meet Deirdre from Alfies Antiques Market
Obsessed with ALL things shiny and full-on vintage vibes? Well magpies, we have just the place for you… Alfies Antique Market! Overflowing with oddity-filled stalls from mid-century furniture to Christian Dior dresses, shining sovereign rings, and now, a very special one-month only Cabinet of Curiosities curated by yours truly. Nestled in West London, we knew from the moment the final touches were added to top secret new designs that the mysterious bazaar, Alfies, was the ultimate location to shoot and show off our NEW limited edition AW22 collection. Let’s find out more with Assistant Manager, Deirdre…
Can you describe Alfies Antique Market in five words?
Dazzling, Bountiful, Warm, Welcoming [And Totally] Singular!
What is your role at Alfies?
I am the Assistant Manager of the building and the Head of PR and Marketing.
Can you give us a brief history of the space?
The building previously housed Jordan's department store, a haberdashery that went bust in the early 1970s. Bennie Gray, the founder and owner of Alfies, bought the building with the aim of turning it into an unpretentious antiques market. He named it Alfies, after his jazz-playing father, and during a heatwave in the summer of 1976 the market opened with a party, exuding bustle and energy from the very start. We have some dealers in the building who have been with us since we opened!
You have some AMAZING shops in the market, which one is your favourite?
I honestly couldn't choose! Every store is fascinating and completely individual.
Is there anything exciting coming up at Alfies?
There are lots of exciting things coming up at Alfies - The Church Street Antiques Fair will take place on Sunday 18th September, when we will have professional vintage and antique dealers from all over the UK open their stalls on the street outside Alfies, with live music and food stalls. We also will be launching a fortune teller's residency at the market in the coming weeks (more details to be announced!) and, of course, there will be plenty of fun happening in the lead-up to Christmas!
QUICKFIRE ROUND:
If you could collect one thing, what would it be? Vintage saxophones! Or antique diaries full of centuries-old gossip...
Less or more? Less.
Necklaces or Earrings? Earrings.
Favourite piece from our AW22 collection? The Walk of Snails Necklace!
