Move over, Kate Moss - there's a new face (and ears) taking London Fashion Week by storm. This September, Disney is celebrating Minnie Mouse's status as one of its most beloved and enduring cultural icons and a series of international designers have been invited to create one-off pieces inspired by Minnie's trademark hair bow and love for polka dots. The cartoon fashionista is receiving a high fashion makeover from designers including
Richard Nicoll,
Lulu Guinness and...Tatty Devine!
Inspired by Minnie's iconic style, we created a bespoke statement necklace to be shown alongside its fellow 'Minnie Mouse Must Haves' at London Fashion Week. The 'Minnie Mouse Must Haves' are now being auctioned on
eBay in aid of the charity
Fashion Arts Foundation. The Foundation aims to inspire and support collaboration and foster relationships between fashion, film, music and art talent, securing London's position as the creative capital of the world. It further aims to create a legacy fund to support emerging artists and designers and enable them to fulfil their creative potential to the full.
After countless hours in our East London studio, we can finally reveal our finished piece, "All Eyes on Minnie Mouse":
Minnie's lusciously lashed eyes are carefully recreated in black and white perspex and tiered upon a thick golden chain for the ultimate statement necklace. Et voila, Minnie chic!
Yesterday, we donned our finest cartoon couture and headed to the launch party at London Fashion Week hosted by fashion maven Brix Smith Start.
Eye, eye! All the 'Minnie Mouse Must Haves' are displayed on Minnie-esque red and white glowing polka dot plinths.
Harriet and Rosie meet the assembled media in
Mary Katranzou and
Prada, respectively. Well, it is Fashion Week, darlings!
Is dog-napping a crime? Brix Smith Start's pug Gladys works the Minnie Mouse trend in an adorable polka dot tutu (she had to take off her Mouse ears - too many photos, you know.)
