Team Tatty's Top Records + Your Chance to WIN!
You’ve probably noticed that we’re a bunch of music fanatics at Tatty Devine - over the years we’ve designed jewellery for Belle and Sebastian, Peaches and Chicks on Speed to name a few, plus our Banana Necklace nods to Andy Warhol's iconic Velvet Underground album cover!
To celebrate Record Store Day this Saturday 16th April, we’re sharing our eclectic mix of favourite records, plus there’s even a chance to win an original Record Necklace in store….
THE TEACHES OF PEACHES BY PEACHES “I bought this record after seeing Peaches play on Brick Lane in 2000 and was completely blown away by her. At the gig she invited all the women to dance on stage with her - which we did! We were really intoelectro-clash and this record still sounds as fresh and new today and it did then. I love the simplicity of the sound and the cheekiness of her lyrics. She's amazing!” - ROSIE, CO-FOUNDER AND MANAGING DIRECTOR
SOUL MINING BY THE THE “I first heard Soul Mining in my late teens, and I'd scratch the record back so I could re-play the amazing Jools Holland piano solo on Uncertain Smile over again. I was lucky enough to meet Matt Johnson of The The recently - and was so star struck, I was rendered completely mute! My friend had to speak on my behalf, so he signed my copy of Uncertain Smile to "The Cute One..." - my most treasured possession!” - HOLLY, ECOMMERCE MANAGER
HARDCORE BY LIL’ KIM “Mine's going to have to be the original Queen Bee, Lil' Kim and her inimitable album, Hard Core. It features classic samples from greats including Kool and the Gang, naughty/knowing lyrics and potentially the best album artwork, ever. Endless buckets of roses, a gold lamé bikini and a quite frankly, creepy polar bear rug? Why not!” - CHARLOTTE, WORKSHOP SUPERVISOR
ROLLED GOLD BY THE ROLLING STONES “You can't beat the Rolling Stones! This best of album includes all the hits including Jumpin' Jack Flash, (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, and Gimme Shelter. I’m constantly playing it on mine and my mum’s record player!” - FIZZ, LASER CUTTER TECHNICIAN
THE SOUND OF MUSIC “Bit of a silly one, but my favourite record is one my parents picked up from a charity shop, The Sound of Music! It’s one of my top movie soundtracks and sounds great on the record player - it’s very motivating for any house chores! My most played track on the album has got to be Do-Re-Mi, it reminds me of a family holiday in Austria where we cycled around Salzburg singing this song constantly - we must have looked like such tourists!” - LEX, JEWELLERY MAKER
TANGO IN THE NIGHT BY FLEETWOOD MAC “This album reminds me of when I was small, I would spend hours studying and looking at the artwork - I've always loved it and especially like the secret hippo that is a lurking on the cover! I love how 'eighties' it sounds compared to their other albums, it seems to sound loads more modern with the lovely eighties synths going on. I was 7 when this was released and wanted to be Stevie (poor Christine) I always thought her and Kate Bush were babes of the eighties. In a nutshell this album sounds like the soundtrack to a hundred cheesy films from my youth.” - KATIE, STORE SUPERVISOR
