To 2022 🥂

December 15, 2022 - Alice Barnes
To 2022 🥂

This time has come once more for us to sit back with a glass of mulled wine and reminisce on our best bits of the year: yet again we can’t quite believe we’ve fit so much fun into just 52 weeks! A wonderful whirlwind of cultural collaborations, even more Misshapes and giant jewellery. Wish us luck as we try to sum up 2022 in one blog post…

SEASONAL SHOWSTOPPERS

Sitting in our East London studio in February we turned up that virtual thermostat and transported ourselves to tropical climates with SS22: Wild Things. A homage to a new sense of freedom, we embodied our animalistic energies with a jewellery collection brimming with beautiful creatures and lush plant life. Fast forward six months and we were looking forward to winding down for winter with AW22. Stepping into our very own wonder room, we explored odes to discovery, scientific classification and craftsmanship with our second seasonal collection of the year: Cabinet of Curiosities. Available online and in-store: we’re seeing our extra special limited editions sell out, so shop now to secure your very own collector’s piece.

Celebrating the launch, in August we took over a shop front at Alfies Antique Market (get to know their Assistant Manager Deirdre on the blog) with our own Cabinet of Curiosities curated by our Creative Director Harriet Vine. Brimming with oddities and eccentricities created and owned by our friends, head to our TikTok below to take a look around.

In the Chroma-zone: keep your eyes peeled, the rainbow will be revealed on January 25th.

KEEP ON COLLABORATING

We truly believe teamwork makes the dream work here at Tatty Devine and we’re INCREDIBLY lucky that our jewellery designs have enabled us to work with amazing organisations, people and cultural spaces throughout the years… and 2022 was no different.

With International Women’s Day around the corner, March saw us unite with international charity Equality Now in a partnership to support their commitment to a more gender-equal world. Each piece of this feminist collection sold donates £3.75 ($5) to Equality Now.

Historical hotspots? We’ll be there. 2022 saw us create collections inspired by two of Team Tatty’s top places to explore. Delving into the works of pioneering female writers: Tatty Devine X Chawton House honoured the trailblazing treasures from Chawton House’s library bursting with over 10,000 books. Our love letter to this South Coast statement: Tatty Devine X Royal Pavilion celebrates the eccentric handcrafted interiors and iconic architecture through laser cut jewellery, handmade in Britain.

“Love is a losing game” but you’ll serve the winning look with Amy Winehouse-inspired jewellery. Honouring the first woman to ever collaborate with Fred Perry, we teamed up with a fellow quintessentially British brand to honour the beehived icon with an exclusive to Fred Perry collaboration. Tap here to discover the story behind these lightning bolts.

From one inspirational woman to another: launched on what would have been her 115th birthday, we celebrated the pioneering Mexican artist with Tatty Devine X Frida Kahlo. In official collaboration with the Frida Kahlo Foundation, we created a twenty-piece jewellery collection inspired by her works and the jewellery she herself wore. Kicking off her birthday bonanza, we head to the Mexican Geniuses Immersive Experience with some of our besties: head to our Instagram highlight to see how it went down!

Guess who's back, back again? With three NEW designs for 2022 plus some archive essentials, we were ready to get wrapped up in this season’s Tatty Devine X Miss Pompom scarves. Don’t wait around. Some of our bestselling designs have already sold out so it’s time to snap up your favourite - no boos around here thank you!

WE’LL MISS YOU MISSHAPES

Transporting ourselves back to early in the year, our touring exhibition Misshapes: The Making of Tatty Devine descended on its final stop: Hove Museum and Art Gallery. After another delve into the archive, we had to continue celebrations for ANOTHER year with more additions to our 20th birthday collection before we said goodbye to Misshapes. We saw the much-anticipated return of Disco Lobsters , Firework Sparkles, and limited edition Giant Squids before the final foray into our archive with *THE* collector’s piece - our extra special Tatty Devine Collector Necklace

Sad to say goodbye to Misshapes? Grab your own copy of our archive with our ultimate coffee table book.

A BUNTING GOOD TIME

Armed with pliers and acrylic flags a plenty, Team Tatty took to the road to bring you all the tips and tricks to making your own piece of Tatty Devine jewellery. From pride celebrations with Not A Phase, Misshapes madness in Hove to Disco Lobsters on the Isle of Wight and snappy surrealist pieces at the Tate Modern!

What a year it’s been: let’s take a moment to hear from Tatty Devine Co-Founder Harriet Vine…

“2022 has been a magical year with totally incredible moments.  Tatty Devine X Frida Kahlo was the dream collaboration. Curating our own cabinet of curiosity was so much fun.

It’s been an incredible year of growing together in our East London studio space: we’ve drawn, made, laughed, invented new things and met new people. The end of the year comes with so much anticipation of plans of all the exciting things we have lined up for 2023! - Harriet Vine

Happy New Year, love Team Tatty x
