Wedding Belles
Shop stars extraordinaire Katie and Megan are getting married this year!
We caught up with the two wedding belles at our Covent Garden store to chat wedding inspiration, hen dos and party playlists, plus we even set them a little Name Necklace challenge...
First up, when and where is the big day? Katie: Our big day is on the 9th of September in The Botanical Gardens in brilliant Berlin. We’re then chipping off to a festival to see Radiohead (our fave band), then flying out to San Fran followed by Hawaii! Lolz.
Megan: I marry my true love and best friend this summer on 16th July at the breathtaking Fishley Hall, in an old Grain Barn. It’s surrounded by 350 acres of idyllic Norfolk countryside… it was the first place we viewed but we knew it was perfect from the moment we set eyes on it!
Where has most of your wedding inspiration come from? K: Our inspiration is from our love and respect for each other and continuing to enjoy our life together. We are getting hitched in Berlin as it’s a special place for us, plus we’re lucky enough to have amazing friends and family who are happy to share the day with us. It’s going to be sehr gut!
M: I was brought up in the countryside, spending longs days exploring and getting lost, so we want to bring that into the day with lots of flowers, trees and handmade elements. From that starting point, we began a mood board on Pinterest and it grew organically from there.
What has been your favourite part of the planning process so far? K: Dress shopping with my dear pal Gina was massively enjoyable. After just three hours sleep and with a hangover, I found the dress of my dreams (I only tried on two!). We followed this with a celebratory pint and a facetime with my folks. So modern!
M: Me and Carl both have creative backgrounds, so we've enjoyed being inventive and thrifty, yet not compromising on design. We love spending our evenings crafting together and bouncing ideas off one another - Carl made the invites and he's also working on a lightbox sign, plus this week I'm making bunting!
Any exciting plans for your hen do? K: To be honest most weekends with our daft friends are like a Sten do (without the novelty sashes and penis straws)! We are so chuffed and honoured we get to kick it with all the good eggs over the festivities so anything else that happened between now and then is just a bonus really! Though I’m half expecting Charlotte to throw a surprise hen workshop, I’d be really happy with a fancy make, maybe an iridescent dino? *Hint hint*
M: A couple of years ago if you had asked me, I would have wanted a night on the town! Now a boozy brunch with my favourite girls and a good catch up is all I am after.
Top songs on your wedding party playlist? K: We are both into music massively so deciding which friends will DJ at our best man’s bar in Friedrichshain is going to be tricky! We’ve really enjoyed choosing the music - Wild Hearts by Seven Davis Jr will be played for our first dance, it’s just brilliant. Anything by LCD, The Beatles, Hot Chip, Doves, Gonjasufi, Talking Heads, Caribou, The Chemical Brothers, Canned Heat, Billie Ocean, Prince, Cassius, Tina Turner and Bob Dylan will be on the playlist, though we still have tonnes of records to sift through, arrrghhh!
M: Our first dance will be to Le Temps De L’Amour by Francoise Hardy - the lyrics and the dance scene in Moonrise Kingdom sums us up completely! Lady in Red by Chris De Burgh is a classic and a family favourite... My stepdad serenades my mum with this one as she enters the room, like all the time.... It's pretty funny!
CHALLENGE! Design and make a Name Necklace inspired by your wedding… you’ve got 15 minutes!
Tell us a little about your design... K: When Paul and I were first dating we would write love letters to each other. He used to live in Berlin and I would desperately try and show off with the little German I knew, we would close our letters with ‘Alles Liebe’ this translates to ‘much love’. Ladybug is my fave font, plus I love anything glittery so it had to be done really!
M: A bit of a cliche but I love a cliche! The wedding for us is a celebration of our relationship and a life event for our families, being ‘just married’ feels like the start of a new adventure - like a scene in a movie as the newly married couple drive off into the sunset.
