HOW IT’S MADE: HOT HOUSE LADYBIRD NECKLACE
There's nothing cuter than a ladybird. With their signature polka dot pattern and colour pop shell, they're definitely nature's fashionista. They're also a key inspiration for the Hot House jewellery in our Spring Summer 2013 collection. Go behind the scenes at our Kent studio and watch Kristy bring our Hot House Ladybird Necklace to life.
A bright red ladybird is lasercut from perspex and carefully attached to a tiny body. A ladybird wouldn't be complete without its spots, so we carefully etch and ink it with classic black polka dots.
To capture the feel of the Hot House, the leaf is dotted with glossy clear resin to recreate humid dew drops. Each leaf laser cut, then hand curved to resemble a lush cheese plant leaf in real life. Time for the trickiest part: attaching this little ladybird onto its custom made leaf.
Using super strength wire thread, Kristy carefully sews the ladybird onto the leaf through meticulously positioned drilled holes. Careful with that needle, Kristy!
Snip! After one final check and a polish, our Ladybird Necklace is ready to make its way out into the big wide world and fly straight into your jewellery box.
